Of course none of this control is available on portable devices and if it was their storage capacities are so limited for most of us not blowing $1000 on a depreciating phone that will be worth 1/3 of that soon. Or use a flat land type of organization where things are tagged so you can have one title in more than one category. Isn’t that easier? Download to your computer where you can keep a million books if you want, all easily organized in folders and subfolders, just how YOU want it, not how almighty Amazon deems it. It seems like almost nobody manages their books on their computer. If nothing helps from here contact Amazon Client Service since you might have some issues with your wifi module. Check under "Manage your content and devices" (. Log off and back on your account under settings. Tip on the button Cloud and try downloading the book manually. Sever the wifi connection and sett it up again under settings. Set your device in flight mode for 10-15 seconds after which turn flight mode off. Hard Reset your device by holding the On/Off button 40 seconds or until you see a picture of a tree with a boy reading underneath it. If your device is compatible but the book still doesn't download try following: If the option is there you have to check if your device is listed otherwise it's incompatible. On the product page you will see something like " Available for following devices" if this doesn't appear than the e-Book is compatible with all Kindle models. I’d prefer the latter since that’s how I organize ebooks on my computer, but I suspect the Calibre-like interface would be more popular. You should check if the Book is compatible with your device. If you want to store a lot of books on an ereader then it should have an interface that looks either more like Calibre or more like Windows explorer. It’s just not a graceful way to store all your books and then browse for the next one to read. In fact if you put too many books on it it gets pretty clumsy. But nothing about the design except the amount of storage suggests it’s for organizing a lot of books. I think the marketing people want larger specs so they push for more storage. Likely the designers see it as a reading device, plain and simple, and not as a storage device. I think Amazon has always been at war with itself about what a Kindle is. If they created automatic collections based on genre it would get very messy indeed. It has very little to do with classification. Amazon uses genre as a marketing device only. Some books will be included in 2 of those genres. Look at the mystery books on Amazon and then the Literature and Fiction books and then the SF books and you’ll find many of the same books in all three. I don’t agree that Amazon sorts their books by genre. How about you? How would you change Kindle collections and the way organizing content on Kindles works? I prefer more of a folder type system for organization or it just gets too messy. If something is in a collection I don’t want to see the individual title on the list in addition to the one in the collection. I also never cared for how collections create duplicates of everything. Why don’t Kindles have the option to view just sci-fi or mystery titles in your library? I’ve never understood why content can’t be sorted by genre at the very least when everything in the Kindle store is sorted by genre. Why aren’t collections created automatically? If you have 5 books in the same series it should just automatically create a collection for that series. It would be nice if collections could be setup and managed using a web browser from your Amazon account, for instance, or if there was a desktop option for organizing.Īnother thing is it just takes too much time to setup collections for a library containing a few hundred books, much less a few thousand. There are a number of limitations with the current system, like the fact that collections have to be created and managed from an app or Kindle device. I’ve never been a fan of how they work either so I pretty much never use them.
